Today I had the pleasure of meeting Kim, who has called Hamilton East Kiwanis Non-Profit Homes home for nearly 20 years.

I stopped by to drop off a campaign flyer and a pinback button, but I left with something much more valuable – a conversation.

Kim shared that she supports what I’m trying to do for Hamilton and the many people I’ve advocated alongside over the years. She told me, “You have my vote.” Moments like that remind me why this grassroots campaign matters.

She also shared concerns about the condition of her home, including persistent mould and deteriorating ceilings. No one should have to worry about the safety or condition of their home, regardless of their income or where they live.

Affordable housing must also be safe, healthy, and properly maintained. Every Hamiltonian deserves housing that protects their health and preserves their dignity.

Organizations like Hamilton East Kiwanis Non-Profit Homes have played an important role in providing affordable housing and continue to expand non-profit housing options in our city.

As Mayor, I’ll continue advocating not only for more affordable housing, but for stronger accountability and proactive maintenance so residents can have confidence that their homes are safe places to live.
