Great conversations about Hamilton’s future happen all over this city, and today, one of them happened over lattes at Selo Cafe in Hess Village
I had the pleasure of sitting down with David MacMullen, also known online as David MacMullen, to talk about my campaign for Mayor of Hamilton, my platform, and some of the opportunities and challenges facing our city.
David has helped build Drop Spot Vintage (Drop Spot Vintage) from an idea that began online into a growing Hamilton business with a strong local footprint. Today, the Drop Spot family includes its Westdale flagship, Drop Spot East, and Bluette Studios, alongside online retail, wholesale, events, and community collaborations. It’s a great example of the kind of entrepreneurial energy, creativity, and willingness to try something different that Hamilton should be encouraging.
More than anything, it was just a really nice conversation. Thoughtful, relaxed, and full of ideas about Hamilton.
My mayoral campaign is about listening to the people who are already building this city: small-business owners, artists, workers, organizers, entrepreneurs, neighbourhood leaders, and residents who see both Hamilton’s enormous potential and the barriers that can get in the way.
I want the City of Hamilton to be a city where creative people can start something, grow something, take a risk, hire locally, collaborate with their neighbours, and choose to stay here. Supporting independent businesses and vibrant commercial districts isn’t separate from city-building – it is city-building.
Thank you, David, for the conversation, and thank you to Selo for giving Hamilton such a beautiful place to have it
This campaign is being built one conversation at a time.
