Today I joined the Ontario Federation of Labour’s Worth Fighting For community canvass and solidarity BBQ at Sam Manson Park.

I spent time knocking on doors, listening to workers and speaking with people about the issues affecting their families. Afterwards, I had the honour of helping serve hot dogs to some very hungry workers and community members.

This is what solidarity looks like to me: showing up, sharing the work, listening without judgment and standing together for something better.

My mayoral campaign is rooted in the same values that have guided my history of labour activism. Workers deserve dignity, safety, fair wages, affordable housing and public services they can depend on. That includes unionized workers, precarious workers, migrant workers, strippers, sex workers and everyone whose labour keeps Hamilton functioning.

I am not running to govern from a boardroom or to serve political insiders. I am running to bring the voices of working people directly into City Hall.

Hamilton was built by workers, but too many of the people who keep this city moving can no longer afford to live here. Rent, groceries and utilities continue to climb while wages struggle to keep pace. That is not inevitable. It is the result of political choices, and together, we can make different choices.

Thank you to the Ontario Federation of Labour, the Hamilton & District Labour Council, the organizers, canvassers and everyone who welcomed us at their doors today.

There is so much in Hamilton worth fighting for, and I intend to fight alongside you.
