This is my neighbour Nada, and she is one of the people who reminds me exactly why I am running for Mayor of the @CityofHamilton. ❤️
Nada came to Canada as an immigrant and built a life here through education, hard work, determination, and a deep commitment to her family and community.
She went to school, became a nutritionist at St. Peter’s Hospital, won awards for her service, bought a home, raised a family, and built everything she has through her own hard work.
But what I love most about Nada has little to do with a résumé.
The first time I met her, she offered me fresh kale from her garden. That small act says so much about who she is: generous, neighbourly, and always thinking about others.
Nada believes Hamilton can be better. She pays attention to our neighbourhood and our city, and she believes deeply in this campaign. Apparently, she also gets on the @HamiltonStreetRailway and tells just about everyone she meets about Scarlett Gillespie for Mayor. 😂❤️
I cannot tell you what it means to have someone believe in me like that. It is true neighbourly love.
When I think about this campaign, I think about people like Nada: immigrants, workers, health-care workers, parents, tenants, homeowners, small-business owners, and the ordinary people who built Hamilton and keep it going.
They do not need politicians to speak for them. They need a City Hall that listens to them.
I want a Hamilton where someone like Nada can still come here, get an education, find meaningful work, afford a home, raise a family, and build a life with dignity. I want those opportunities for her children and grandchildren, too.
Hamilton’s strength has never come from a handful of wealthy or powerful people. It comes from people like her.
Nada, thank you for being my neighbour. Thank you for believing in me. And thank you for every person you have apparently cornered on the HSR to tell them about this campaign. 😂
Most of all, thank you for reminding me who this campaign belongs to: the people who make this city what it is.
I will never take that trust for granted. ❤️
