Dear Mayor and Members of Council,

I urge Council to reject any amendment creating exemptions for “public interest infrastructure” or publicly owned AI datacentres.

The purpose of the Interim Control By-law is to study the impacts of AI datacentres before permanent policy is established. Creating ownership-based exemptions before that study is complete prejudges the very questions Council has commissioned the study to answer.

If different rules are ultimately warranted for public-interest infrastructure, that conclusion should follow the evidence – not precede it.
