Hamilton is changing fast. And not everyone is coming along for the ride. Rents that were manageable five years ago are now impossible. Families being pushed out of neighbourhoods they’ve called home for decades. People are working two jobs and still falling behind. This isn’t an accident. It’s the result of decisions – or the failure to make them.
I know first-hand what it is like to live in a CityHousing Hamilton property. I have seen the infrastructure of the building neglected – pests, leaks, black mould, efflorescence, cracks in the foundation, insecure doors, broken windows, and more. Tenants who organize for safer living conditions are illegally targeted by the @CityofHamilton and CityHousing Hamilton for eviction in retaliation.
That’s why I’m running. Hamilton deserves leadership that sees this – and does something about it. What are you seeing in your community? Tell me in the comments.
